The Ballet Workshop, Inc. has built its reputation on providing dancers a safe environment for training in classical ballet, jazz and tap while nurturing dreams of becoming a professional dancer since its inception in 1988 by Artistic Director Syble Bracken. Located in downtown Enumclaw on the corner of Griffin Avenue and Cole Street, the studio is housed upstairs in one of the City’s oldest historic buildings.

Our students are our prime focus. We are committed to providing them with teaching methods based on sound classical technique. These classes are enriched with anatomical terms for a deeper understanding of body awareness and connectivity emphasizing the execution of that technique using proper body alignment, deepening their artistic understanding and instilling in them a broader appreciation for a wide range of music.

The Ballet Workshop, Inc. houses a 501 (c) (3) pre-professional group, Plateau Ballet Repertory Theatre, Enumclaw’s own Youth Ballet Company. PBRT’s performance season consist of their Holiday production of “The Nutcracker Ballet” in December, a Spring repertory performance in April, an Outreach Program, which is funded by grants and donations, that caters to assisted-living facilities and academic schools within our community and performs with The Ballet Workshop in their end-of-year school performance in June.

The Ballet Workshop, Inc. is an “Italian-based” ballet school, but the following are descriptions on the other disciplines of dance we offer:

• Tap . . . for the ‘hoofer-at-heart’. Our tap classes are rhythm based, theatrical style and teach our students to articulate the feet to master sound clarity. Our tap classes involve the entire body, not just the feet. These classes are offered at several levels in our children’s, youth and adult programs. Our tap classes are fun and exciting!
• Jazz – “cross training for the classical dancer” to help support and strengthen other muscle groups not used specifically for turnout and for overall balance in the body. We offer a classical, Broadway/Musical style of jazz with appropriate movement, music and costuming for each level. These classes are also offered at several levels in our children’s, youth and adult programs. Our jazz classes develop overall strength and flexibility for ease of everyday movement.

We want The Ballet Workshop, Inc. to make a difference in our community with the performing arts we offer. Our mission is to empower those students interested in pursuing a career in dance achieve their personal best while developing some of the skills; technique, artistry, musicality and confidence, necessary to achieve this goal, whatever aspect of the dance field they may choose.
